Nothing ruins a knife like using it for anything other than its intended purpose, so avoid using knives for opening cans or tearing packages open. Also, avoid tossing them in a drawer along with the rest of your kitchen tools or silverware. Instead, store knives properly on a magnetic strip or in a knife block.
